The Japan Society of San Diego and Tijuana will hold its 15th Annual Beer & Sake Festival on Friday.

The charity tasting event, which takes place from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. at Harrah’s Resort Southern California, features more than 100 varieties of sake, local craft beers and delicious appetizers from some of the top chefs in the San Diego region.

Attendees can also expect live, cultural entertainment including: a Burai Productions Samurai sword fighting demonstration, San Diego Taiko dynamic drumming performances and a Tuna cutting demonstration.

Festival proceeds will support the Japan Society’s numerous educational programs and activities that build bridges between the people of Japan and the San Diego/Tijuana region. These include language competitions, educational exchanges and sports exchanges.

Fairy Festival

Gather the children for the Fairy Festival at San Diego Botanic Garden in Encinitas on Saturday.
The Fairy Festival, which takes place from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m, features fairy themed activities, where children may wear their favorite fairy costume and take photos with fairies. Crafts will also be available for children. The event is complete with food and drinks. The Fairy Festival is free with paid admission or membership.

Brats and Beers on the Bay

The Maritime Museum of San Diego will host a Father’s Day event this weekend. The event, which takes place aboard the schooner Californian, official tall ship of California, and San Salvador, a 1542 galleon replica, features beers and bratwursts. The three-hour event will include a trip around San Diego Bay. Tickets are $70 per adult and $48 for children 12 and under.

Hullabaloo Concert

Hullabaloo, a children’s music band, will kick off its summer concert series at the San Diego Children’s Discovery Museum on Friday. The event will include access to the museum, arts and crafts for the children, and food and wine.


South Park Old House Fair

South Park’s annual Old House Fair, the community’s historic home and garden tour and street festival, returns on Saturday. The event, which takes place from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., features five historic South Park homes – to be revealed the day-of – and brings together vintage home specialists and resources, local music, and artists. Home tour tickets can be purchased for $25 pre-event and $30 on the day of the event. The street festival is free to attend.

Marine Band Concert

Marine Band San Diego will perform its annual free Summer Concert this Saturday. The concert, which is open to the public, features selections from the band’s varied repertoire of traditional classics, patriotic marches and newer favorites that are sure to entertain audiences of all ages. The public is invited to bring cameras, blankets and lawn chairs, and share an evening of music with family and friends. The concert takes place at 4 p.m. at the Marine Corps Recruit Depot San Diego in front of building 31 on the commanding general’s honors lawn. Guests should enter at Gate 5, through Washington Street off Interstate 5 and follow the signs for special event.
