A suspected drugged driver was arrested after a crash in National City that injured the occupants of the other vehicle, police said Monday.

The 27-year-old suspect, whose name was not immediately available, was behind the wheel of a car that collided with a vehicle at the intersection of Hoover Avenue and Mile of Cars Way around 8:45 p.m. Sunday, according to National City Police.

The driver fled, but called police about an hour later, claiming she had been unconscious in the time since the accident, police said.

Officers determined she had allegedly been under the influence of a controlled substance and placed her under arrest on suspicion of DUI and hit- and-run causing injury, according to police.

She was checked out at a hospital before she was booked into jail.
