A fire of unknown origin caused an estimated $15,000 worth of damage to an Escondido home Tuesday afternoon.

The non-injury blaze in the 900 block of East Fifth Avenue erupted shortly before 1:30 p.m., according to the Escondido Fire Department.

Firefighters safely rescued a trapped dog while extinguishing the flames, which took about 10 minutes. The personnel were able to confine the blaze to the kitchen of the two-story house, Battalion Chief John Tenger said.

The cause of the fire was under investigation.
