How coveted is a seat on the Carlsbad City Council?
Very, if the number of candidates to fill an eight-month vacancy is any indication.
Some 38 people met the Wednesday deadline for application as candidates for appointment to the seat vacated Feb. 7 by Councilwoman Farrah Douglas, according to U-T San Diego.
“Other notable applicants,” said the U-T, “include Keith Lewinger, former general manager of water districts in Fallbrook and Otay; Carlsbad High School students Mary Chen and Nicolas Dmitriev; and several other people who have served on city panels and commissions.”
Applicants will speak at the March 11 council meeting. A decision to fill the remainder of Douglas’ term could be made that night or two weeks later, the U-T said.
Douglas announced her resignation in a letter dated Feb. 5 to Mayor Matt Hall, citing “pressing personal and family commitments.”
