A pedestrian was fatally struck by a hit-and-run driver on an Escondido freeway on Friday night.

The incident reported at 9:45 p.m. Friday on the eastbound Route 78, just west of Centre City Parkway, according to a California Highway Patrol dispatcher.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene, she said.

Officers told NBC 7 the crash was caused by a hit-and-run and the vehicle was described as a sedan, possibly missing the driver’s side mirror, with significant front-end damage.
