A southbound Amtrak train traveling near the Baker St./Morena Blvd. intersection Tuesday afternoon struck a pedestrian walking on the tracks, according to the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department.

The train was moving at approximately 73 mph when the locomotive’s operator spotted a pedestrian on the tracks at approximately 3:15 p.m., Deputy B. Abraham of the sheriff’s department reported.

“The train went into emergency braking, but was unable to stop in time and struck the pedestrian,” Abraham continued.

The pedestrian sustained non-life threatening injuries and was transported to Scripps Memorial Hospital La Jolla, he added.

There are no updates on the victim’s current condition.
