San Diego-based Petco and Sharp HealthCare made an annual list of the most ethical companies in the world.

The list compiled by the Ethisphere Institute included 124 companies in 19 countries and 52 industry sectors. It was the sixth time on the list for Petco, a privately held company, and the fourth time for Sharp, a not-for-profit organization.

“We’ve always been committed to demonstrating the highest level of integrity, ethical business practices and social responsibility in everything we do,” said Petco CEO Brad Weston. “It’s an honor to continue receiving this distinguished recognition and a direct reflection of our commitment to doing the right thing for people and pets.”

Scottsdale, AZ-based Ethisphere defines and measures corporate ethical standards. It said the companies on its annual list “recognize their role in society to influence and drive positive change” while also considering the impact on employees, investors, customers and other key stakeholders.

The first list was published in 2007.
