The county Department of Environmental Health re-opened the Imperial Beach shoreline for swimming Saturday following two weeks of sewage contamination from the Tijuana River.

The sewage spill prompted an investigation, with U.S. officials calling it deliberate and Mexican authorities saying it was an accident caused by heavy rain.

Some 20 miles of coast from Rosarito in Mexico to Coronado were affected.

The shoreline re-opened Saturday includes the beach from the south end of Seacoast Drive to Carnation Avenue, including Camp Surf. The shoreline from the international border to the south end of Seacoast Drive will remain closed pending further testing.
