Scattered rain and mountain snow showers are expected to sweep across San Diego County this weekend, confirmed the National Weather Service.
Sprinkles of rain will hit the region late Saturday night and continue into Sunday morning, according to a post on the Weather Service’s Facebook page. Another round of rain is forecast for Sunday night through Monday, with the largest impact in southern San Diego County.
Forecasters say light precipitation totals are expected this weekend, with the likelihood of further rain decreasing on Sunday afternoon. Snow levels are forecast to fluctuate at about 5,000 feet, as a result of the extra precipitation.
“A few disturbances could generate rain, mountain snow and gusty winds at times Sunday through early Tuesday,” said a forecaster, in a post on the National Weather Service’s Facebook page.
The San Diego County Valleys were mostly sunny on Saturday morning, becoming partly cloudy as the afternoon began. Temperatures are expected to drop into lows of 40 to 47 degrees over Saturday night.
There is a 40 percent chance of rain, affecting the cities of Escondido, El Cajon, San Marcos, La Mesa, Santee and Poway. Southwestern winds at about 15 mph will bring gusts up to 25 mph in the valleys.
Monday will be mostly cloudy with a chance of showers. Temperatures will reach 56 to 61 degree at most in the western valleys. Tuesday will remain partly cloudy with highs around 60 degrees as well.
By the middle of the week, Wednesday will bring back mostly clear skies with sunny, warmer weather. That clear weather is forecast to extend into Friday, as a gradual warming continues.
