The North County Transit District announced Thursday that it awarded a $450 million contract to Dallas-based MV Transportation Inc. to supply bus, paratransit and on-demand drivers.
MV Transportation will take over from First Transit, of Cincinnati, beginning July 1.
The agreement has a base term of seven years, with a three-year option.
“Our partnership with MV Transportation is aimed at increasing customer satisfaction and cost efficiency,” said Matthew Tucker, NCTD’s executive director.
“It will improve our current services and support the implementation of new services that meet the unique challenges of our service area,” Tucker said. We are also excited about the robust training, safety, and service management investments that were included in this contract to support contracted drivers and mechanics.”
Last April, the NCTD barely avoided being caught up in a strike that would have disrupted transit services. NCTD bus drivers employed by First Transit, and represented by the Teamsters, threatened to walk off the job but settled at the last minute.
The NCTD’s bus services have an annual ridership of nearly 8 million in 224 vehicles.
