One person was killed Monday in a collision between a car and a truck on Interstate 5 in the far northern reaches of San Diego County.
The collision occurred shortly after 10 a.m. on the southbound side of the freeway near the decommissioned San Onofre Nuclear Generating Station, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The victim, whose identity was not immediately available, died at the scene.
The wreckage and emergency vehicles left three of four southbound lanes blocked in the area, the CHP reported. Traffic remained gridlocked for miles to the north at midday.
