Sean Colgan of Oceanside woke up Wednesday morning, checked his phone and headed to Facebook to make a single post: “Thanks be to God Almighty.”
The Donald Trump superfan said one of the pro-Trump pages asked people for a five-word reaction should the Republican win the White House.
“As I believe that God directs events here on Earth, I felt that a public ‘thank you’ was in order,” Colgan said two days after the stunning election. “And since I know I spend WAY too much time on FB, that was my one and only post for the day.”
Times of San Diego met Colgan, 60, back in May, when he waited beside his Honda motorcycle with a TRUMP sign for Bill Clinton’s convoy to pass him on his way out of a Balboa Park rally. Three interviews followed, exploring his reasons for supporting the New York mogul and reaction to various news.
In this fourth Q&A, Colgan was offered a chance to address the half of America in shock.
We asked: What would you tell Democrats to allay their fears of doom?
“Not a lot,” Colgan replied. “President Trump is going to bring the return of the Rule of Law (the Constitution), and that means that corruption and nonsense by governmental decree are about to come to an end. Since the Democrats have been the ones who’ve been riding that train over the rights of We The People, I’m thinking that they SHOULD be worried.”

Times of San Diego: Hillary Clinton became the fifth person to win the national popular vote but lose in the Electoral College. Should the system be changed?
Sean Colgan: Absolutely. The problem isn’t the Electoral College, per se. The problem is the “all or nothing” tally. I don’t see getting 48 states to each do away with that. But getting an amendment passed to end the EC might be possible.
Many commentators say economic distress and anger over status quo politics led to Clinton’s defeat. What are your theories for Tuesday’s result?
I think that Hillary’s true nature was revealed and the electorate responded appropriately to that revelation. Along with that, “The System” is biased in favor of the rich. It’s always been a little bit so. But lately, the pendulum has swung way too far in their favor.
A lot of this because The Law (the Constitution) isn’t being obeyed, along with a desire to change (*reduce*) America to an “open borders” society. My reasons for working as hard as I did for Mr. Trump is that he believes that in ALL treaties, trade deals, whatever, the interests of America should come FIRST. He also believes in respecting and obeying the Constitution.
There were enough of We The People to recognize and appreciate this desire in Mr. Trump for him to win.
If the Democrats had nominated Bernie Sanders — who channeled many of the same economic grievances as Trump — would the presidential election have come out the same?
I certainly hope so. The difference between Sanders and Hillary is that Sanders was more open about his Socialism. Which meant that he was more open about his desire to trash the Constitution. Which would have been his “solution” to the economic grievances. As opposed to Mr. Trump’s solution, which is more jobs.
Why did the vast majority of polls predict a Clinton victory?
Because they deluded themselves. Example: It was constantly stated that Mr. Trump was “anti-immigrant.” The fact (ignored by just about all of the press) is that Mr. Trump never made an anti-immigrant statement. He did make anti *illegal alien* statements. LOTSA them. The two are not analogous. An illegal alien isn’t, by definition, an “immigrant.”
Adding to the delusion is the claim that “Mr. Trump wants to divide families.” No, Mr. Trump’s goal is to secure the border. That may result in families being divided, but that would be a side effect, not the goal. Just because the pollsters and the press didn’t see the difference didn’t mean that We The People couldn’t.
Self-delusion applies to the claim that Hillary had “experience” in government. Voters were more receptive to the fact that she accomplished nothing of importance as a senator, or as secretary of state, but that the Clinton Foundation took in hundreds of millions of dollars.
There was an old programming saying that went “Garbage In, Garbage Out” (GIGO). While the press and the pollsters didn’t recognize that they were offering nothing but “garbage,” the voters did. And reacted accordingly.
How will a Trump presidency affect you personally and financially? Have you benefited from the Affordable Care Act or any actions passed by Congress in the past eight years?
My efforts have been purely altruistic. I’m 100 percent disabled. More jobs doesn’t mean anything to me as I can’t work. Obamacare doesn’t affect me either as my medical care is fully covered. I am, however, VERY happy that I’ll be getting my country back.
In 1973, Spiro Agnew resigned as Richard Nixon’s vice president in a case involving charges of extortion, tax fraud, bribery and conspiracy when Agnew held office in Maryland. If Donald Trump is convicted in the Trump University case, what should he do? Will he be impeached?
There’s nothing criminal in the Trump U case. So the two situations aren’t analogous.
Trump has promised to repeal Obamacare. With both houses in Congress behind him, he appears poised to do that. Are you confident that the system won’t revert to one in which insurers penalize sick people and millions are left without any health insurance?
Without corruption, anything can be accomplished.
Trump can reverse Obama’s executive actions on immigration. How soon should undocumented immigrants expect to be deported? How will this mass deportation be done “humanely,” with many American-born children involved?
I’m hoping that they’ll start to self-deport themselves now. The experience of Arizona gives me hope that this is a strong likelihood. If not, Mr. Trump promised to revoke the illegal and unconstitutional executive orders on 20 January. So right after that.
As for illegal aliens with American citizen offspring, those offspring will have to decide whether they’re going to stay together, or stay in the land of their birth.
Trump has promised to crack down on news media he claims have lied or been unfair. How can he do this without undermining the First Amendment?
As “progressives” and “liberals” are so fond of saying, there are limits to all rights. The First isn’t a blank check for the media to publish whatever they want. There ARE standards of fairness and accuracy. They’ve been ignored for far too long. Reimposing those standards wouldn’t damage the right.
Trump doesn’t believe in manmade climate change, may shut down the EPA and pull America out of the Paris climate deal. Will he have any scientists in his administration that will be able to speak their own minds?
I’m not seeing the connection between the two sentences.
As far as “able to speak their own minds” goes, there are people who have lots of letters after their names who also don’t believe in man-made climate change. How many of them are there in the current administration?
Todd Gloria and others vow to keep pushing for progressive policies in Sacramento. Will California have anything to fear from Washington over its failure to concur in Trump’s plans?
I certainly hope so. In spite of being one of the 50 States, California’s record of flat-out ignoring the U.S. Constitution is pretty long. Helped by far too many members of the federal judiciary being appointed by a president who sees the Constitution as something to be “worked around,” rather than as THE guide as to what is the proper role of government.
Mr. Trump promises to appoint judges who believe in obeying the Constitution. That *should* cause fear in Sacramento. But only in the hearts of those who have zero fealty to the Constitution in the first place.
San Diego County went for Clinton over Trump by about 56 percent to 39 percent. What do you think about living in a region at odds with the national election result?
It HAD been very frustrating being surrounded by people who celebrate the trashing of the Constitution every day. I am now very encouraged that enough of We The People elsewhere in the land finally caught on to the same reality and elected a man willing to reverse the trend.
Do you plan to attend the inauguration in January or do anything else to mark the occasion?
No way I can afford to go to D.C. I’ll have to think of an alternate way to celebrate the return of the Constitution to my government.
Anything else you would want readers to know about your feelings about the Trump victory?
If Hillary had won the Oval, it would have been time to start the countdown to the end of this republic. Mexico (as an example) is a craphole. Because the Rule of Law has no real meaning down there.
The current administration has little to no regard for the Rule of Law (the Constitution) either. This disregard for the Constitution wouldn’t have just continued in a Hillary presidency. It would have accelerated.
We The People have been spared this by the election of a man who respects and will obey the Constitution and the law. A man dedicated to appointing like-minded people to the federal judiciary and to the federal bureaucracy. A man who will be dedicated to rooting out the corruption and illegality that has infested D.C. for far too long.
For the first time in a long time, I have hope that the Land of the Free will remain so.
