A woman was killed Saturday night when she apparently ran toward the tracks in front of a northbound Amtrak train.
The incident was reported at 7:40 p.m. on the tracks near Sanford Street and North Vulcan Avenue, according to the San Diego Sheriff‘s transit enforcement unit.
Deputy Jason Burk said a northbound Amtrak Train was traveling at 84 miles per hour when the engineer saw a woman run toward the tracks. The train went into emergency braking, but was unable to stop in time.
The pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene, Burk said.
