Grammy Award-winning jazz and soul artist Poncho Sanchez will headline the 3rd annual Imperial Avenue Street Festival later this month.

The free event on Aug. 27 will blend art and music in one of San Diego’s most historic neighborhoods, while celebrating the current arts and culture of the greater Logan Heights community. It takes place from noon to 9 p.m. between 28th Street and 30th Street.

Sanchez is known for a fiery stew of straight ahead jazz, gritty soul music, and infectious melodies and rhythms from a variety of Latin American and South American sources.

Festival attendees will be able to browse four blocks of local artists and sample some of the delicious food from the neighborhood while listening to a wide variety of bands and performers. A Kid’s Zone with performers, rides and games will entertain the the youngest.

“We are thrilled to be working to help showcase the Greater Logan Heights community through the Imperial Avenue Street Festival again this year,” said Monte Jones, chief executive officer, BAME Community Development Corporation. “The Imperial Avenue Street Festival provides San Diegans of all ages an opportunity to explore one of the oldest neighborhoods, a ‘melting pot’ of San Diego with wonderful sights, tastes and personal style. Whether you are in search of a new sound or would like to expand your culinary palate, the festival has something for the entire family.”

BAME is a nonprofit organization whose mission is to strengthening residents and businesses in Greater Logan Heights neighborhoods.
