AT&T opened its third and most advanced “store of the future” Thursday in Carmel Mountain Ranch.
The new store sells smartphones, but is more of an electronics lifestyle emporium, with products ranging from computers to speakers to watches and even electric guitars.
“We have a brand new design. it’s an immersive experience,” said Amanda Harris, AT&T’s new assistant vice president for San Diego stores.
“It’s home automation. It’s music. It’s entertainment. It’s fitness,” she explained.
But she said the smartphone and AT&T’s wireless network remain fundamental to the entire experience. “The phone has now become the remote control for your life,” she said.
City Councilman Mark Kersey, who helped cut a ribbon to open the store, said city government could make better use of the technology and innovation symbolized by the store. “We could use a lot more of it in government,” he said.
The store at 11954 Carmel Mountain Road is open seven days a week.
AT&T’s other two new stores are in National City and Mission Valley.
