A third suspect was arrested Tuesday in connection with the fatal shooting of a man last spring at a Palm City-area motel.

Maurice Leon Hayes, 20, was taken into custody Tuesday morning for allegedly taking part in the April 12 killing of 27-year-old Raymond Lipscomb, according to San Diego police.

About 1:30 a.m. that day, patrol officers responding to a report of a shooting in the 1000 block of Outer Road found Lipscomb with a gunshot wound to his upper body, Lt. Ray Valentin said.

Medics took the victim to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.

Last Wednesday, detectives arrested 28-year-old Rodney Eric Martin and 35-year-old Darryl Key, both of San Diego, on suspicion of taking part in the homicide.

Authorities have disclosed no suspected motive for the slaying and have declined to reveal what led them to identify the three suspects as the alleged killers.
