Hello, Downtown!

TwitchCon will attract thousands of livestreaming fans to the San Diego Convention Center from Nov. 13 to 15. IYKYK.

IYDKAAC (If You Don’t Know And Are Confused), let’s look at the event and get excited about the world-record that will be attempted.

TwitchCon happens twice a year. Once in Europe and once in North America (often in San Diego). San Diego pulls in anywhere from 25,000 to 30,000 per convention.

To call TwitchCon the less-popular stepbrother of Comic-Con International (the annual San Diego summer showcase of superheroes and celebrities that attracts 130,000 attendees) would be rude and quasi-factual, but appropriate by current national standards of discourse.

“Lord of the Rings” cast members will be on hand at TwitchCon. The 30th anniversary of “Space Jam” will be feted. Fans also come to celebrate video livestreaming platforms and a wide-range of internet culture.

Boomer Explainer: Seen those Progressive Insurance commercials featuring Dr. Rick? The pseudo-doc’s schtick is keeping young homeowners from turning into their parents. In one commercial, Dr. Rick introduces his clients to a social media influencer. The group is dumbfounded by videos of the influencer reacting to opening shoe boxes, trying on hats or brushing his teeth. The influencer describes the latter as “Get Ready With Me” (GRWM) content.

“Get ready for what?” asks a young homeowner in the commercial.

Indeed.

TwitchCon will have panels and workshops on building a brand. There will be game demos and activations. Fans can also meet some of their favorite streamers.

Like Yonna Jay. The digital creator has more than seven million followers on TikTok and two million more on Instagram. She’ll collab with e.l.f. Cosmetics to attempt to break a Guinness World Record for the largest simultaneous GRWM session of people applying makeup.

Dr. Rick’s clients might blow their minds, but anybody can check it out on Friday, Nov. 13, at 4:30 p.m.

For more information on the show, go to: TwitchCon.
