Mission Valley Mall has undergone a full remodel and has been renamed the Valley Mall, and with its remodel come new businesses and restaurants.
Enter The Stand, which celebrated its grand opening on Oct. 8. This new restaurant marks the 23rd location for the brand, and the third location in San Diego. Founded on the food philosophy of American classics with creative flavors and casual dining. Whether you want a quick bite or a leisurely dinner with friends and family, The Stand can accommodate you.
The restaurant concept was founded by Murray Wishengrad, from Encino, in 2003.
“I failed at retirement. I couldn’t just sit on the couch after I retired; I needed something to do,” Wishengrad said. “We now have 23 restaurants and hope to have up to 50 in the next few years.”

This family-operated restaurant chain prides itself on reimagining familiar American favorites, casual dining, and a laid-back atmosphere.
Sons Jason and Zachary work daily with their father to create memorable dining experiences for their customers.
The new Valley Mall restaurant offers indoor and outdoor dining for 200 guests, as well as a full bar serving handcrafted cocktails. Now serving lunch, family dinners, date nights, and larger gatherings.
So, what are American classics with a twist? For example, a current special is an Apple Cheddar Burger with a beef patty, double cheddar cheese, apple julienne, grilled onions, bacon tomato jam, and spicy honey mustard on a pretzel bun.
The other current special is the Big Shrimp Bowl, with grilled shrimp in a house-made glaze, avocado, cucumber salad, sesame-pickled carrots, edamame, crispy wontons, green onions, sesame seeds, and steamed rice drizzled with house-made glaze.
You can build your own burger with a variety of options, including beef, turkey, vegetarian, or chicken, and five different bun options (one of them being gluten-free). Toppings include multiple sauces and cheese options, as well as loaded toppings like onion strings or bacon tomato jam.
If you’re a salad person, this is the restaurant for you. Multiple options include Seared Ahi Tuna, Chinese Chicken, or Chimichurri Steak Salad, to name a few. There is also a full menu of wraps, hot dogs, and a kids’ menu.
Diners can also enjoy craft beer, wine, hand-spun milkshakes, lemonade, agua frescas, and floats.
The Stand is also community-oriented and works with schools, youth teams, nonprofits, and community organizations through fundraising events, sponsorships, and in-kind donations to become an active, long-term partner in every community it serves.
Located across from the AMC Theaters, this restaurant is a convenient stop before or after seeing a movie, or just a quick meal on the go. The Stand caters to all tastes. Hours of operation are Sundays through Wednesdays, 10:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. And Thursdays through Saturdays, 10:30 a.m. to 11 p.m. Parking is free.
