Hello, Beach and Bay!
Do you have a plan to vote in this year’s midterm election? On Tuesday, November 3, voters once again have the opportunity to play a part in shaping our local and state government.
All California registered voters should have received a ballot in the mail earlier this month. If you plan to mail your ballot, the California Secretary of State recommends dropping it in the mail at least 5 days before election day to ensure your votes are counted on time.
Alternatively, you can drop your ballot at any polling place or ballot drop box. Find your polling place at the Secretary of State’s website or check out the list of local vote centers from the San Diego Registrar of Voters.
I usually drop off my ballots at the Pacific Beach library and feel a great sense of shared civic duty. But this year, the library is not going to be an in-person polling place. They still have a 24/7 ballot drop box, but you’ll need to find a different polling place if you’re looking to hit the polls with your community.
The library pointed me to the Pacific Beach Recreation Center for in-person voting. Starting Saturday, polls at the Rec Center will be open from 7am to 6pm every day. The hours on election day are 6am to 8pm. Ballot drop offs are accepted when the polls are open.
Other polling places this election day include Mission Bay High School, the Santa Clara Recreation Center and Kate Sessions Elementary. While Monday was the deadline for online registration, you can still register to vote in-person at polling places through election day.
A few additional reminders:
- You don’t need to vote for every single race in order to return your ballot. Leave as many blank as you choose.
- Ballots can be returned to any certified polling place or drop box.
- The more local the race, the more likely it is to impact you directly. State-wide elections and propositions are important, but the smaller regional races can have more immediate impact on your community.
Make a plan to vote early and encourage others to vote. Your voice matters!
Until next week,
