A 23-year-old man was shot and killed early Wednesday in downtown San Diego’s East Village neighborhood.
Derion Elias White of San Diego was found in the vicinity of 17th Street and Island Avenue shortly after midnight unconscious and suffering from at least one gunshot wound to his upper body, San Diego Police Lt. Manny Del Toro said. He died at the scene despite efforts to save his life.
Del Toro said White was shot by someone who walked up while he was getting into a car with two people already inside. The suspect ran off after the shooting.
Police described the gunman as a roughly 6-foot-tall thin black man who possibly had dreadlocks. He was believed to be wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt and dark pants.
Anyone with additional information on the shooting was asked to call police at (619) 531-2293 or Crime Stoppers at (888) 580-8477.
