PLHS '76, HOF, Astronomer, Author, Teacher.

One of Point Loma High School’s most accomplished alumni will make a local appearance to share his knowledge and interact with interested audience members.

Dr. Jeffrey Bennett, class of 1976 and a Pointer Hall of Fame member, is a famed astrophysicist, author, and teacher. He will enthrall attendees on Oct. 22 with his expertise about the planet and universe beginning at 4:30 p.m. at the Point Loma/Hervey Library.

Have you ever wondered how big the universe really is or how we fit into it? Bennett promises answers to these and other questions in an enlightened “cosmic perspective” talk that he says “will permanently change how you view our planet, our species and yourself.”

His work includes being the lead author of best-selling university textbooks in four different subject areas, including astronomy, mathematics, statistics and astrobiology (life in the universe).

Bennett has also written seven award-winning science books for children, all of which have been read aloud to children from space by astronauts aboard the International Space Station. He has donated more than 30,000 copies of these books to teachers and school libraries in more than 60 countries.

And for middle schoolers, Bennett has written a free digital textbook on Earth and space science.

He will also be signing copies of his book “The Scale of the Universe” at the event, which is suited to all ages from middle school and above.
