Construction of new freeway ramps from Interstate 5 to Genesee Avenue will cause major traffic congestion beginning Friday night and continuing into Monday morning
Caltrans advised motorists to “seek an alternate route, plan ahead or steer clear of this area” during the construction activity, which is part of a major upgrade to the freeway intersection.
Here is the schedule of closures:
- From Friday at 9 p.m. to Saturday at 9 p.m. the northbound Genesee on-ramp and southbound Genesee off-ramp will be closed
- From Saturday at 9 p.m. to Sunday at 5 a.m. all Genesee on- and off-ramps will be closed to traffic
- From Sunday at 5 a.m. to Monday at 5 a.m. the northbound Genesee off-ramp and southbound Genesee on-ramp will be closed
- Throughout the period, the number of eastbound and westbound lanes on Genesee will be reduced between Science Center Drive and Scripps Hospital
During these closures all motorists will be detoured to La Jolla Village Drive. This detour also applies to emergency vehicles.
