A predawn motorcycle crash in an East County neighborhood killed two riders when a man lost control of his Harley-Davidson, authorities reported Monday.
The crash took place shortly before 2:30 a.m. Sunday, when a 41-year-old San Diego man was riding on East Lakeview Road in Lakeside with a 33-year-old female passenger, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The westbound motorcycle veered off the roadway west of Adlai Road and struck a tree, ejecting both of them, CHP public-affairs Officer Jasmine Lopez said. The man and woman, whose names were withheld pending family notification, died at the scene.
The cause of the accident is under investigation, Lopez said, adding that “it is unknown if drugs and/or alcohol were a factor in the crash.”
