A married couple and their teenage daughter were found dead from apparent gunshot wounds Wednesday in San Carlos.

A neighbor discovered the 56-year-old man and his 54-year-old wife dead shortly before 8:30 a.m. inside the residence in the 6800 block of Boulder Lake Avenue, near Gage Elementary, according to the San Diego Police Department.

While searching the home, officers found the body of the couple’s daughter, who was a student at Pershing Middle School. The names of the deceased were not released pending notification to other family members.

“Preliminary evidence at the scene indicates all three died from gunshot wounds,” SDPD acting Lt. Christopher Leahy said. “Investigators recovered a gun in the home.”

Homicide detectives were working to determine who fired the fatal shots, according to police.

In a note to parents, Pershing Middle’s Principal Kristy Aragon wrote, “It is with a heavy heart that I share the unexpected passing of one of our eighth-grade students due to an event in their home. We are deeply saddened by this loss, and our thoughts and heartfelt condolences are with those closest to the student and family.”
