Hello, Point Loma and Ocean Beach!
Live music is always plentiful in OB! Here’s what’s playing live this week at some of our local venues.
The Harp: Since being under a new ownership group which includes Slightly Stoopid frontman Miles Doughty, The Harp has become a premiere reggae venue. They’re keeping that reputation going on tonight with reggae artist JAH9 performing her tunes at the bar. Kat Hall, a local OB musician, is opening for her. Doors open at 8 p.m. and the show starts at 9 p.m. Tickets can be purchased here for $40.
The Holding Company: San Diego based musician Jeff Dewine is hosting a sort of mini festival of local musicians at Newport Avenue’s The Holding Company on tonight from 5:30 p.m.-10:30 p.m. Alongside local musicians will be local artists displaying and selling art at the event.
The night will open with a DJ spinning vinyl followed by performances by Dewine, Ari Fine, Emily and Oliver, Stella Rosenblatt, Ondine LaSalle, Stephano Martinez, Cam Michael Hersh and Kris Wott. Tickets for the event will be sold for $10.
Winston’s: Winston’s is keeping its usual suspects going along with some other touring cover bands. Broken Hearts, a Tom Petty cover band, is coming into town on tomorrow, Aug. 21, at 7 p.m. and tickets can be purchased for $15. The standout this weekend though is local band Shakedown String Band performing at 9 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 22. They blend a classic rock sound with contemporary acoustic strings. Any local band is a good time and these guys encapsulate OB with ease. Tickets are only $12!
