A man lying on the tracks in San Marcos was killed by a Sprinter train late Saturday night.
The San Diego Sheriff‘s transit enforcement unit said the man was hit around 10:30 p.m. by an eastbound train traveling at 48 mph near the intersection of Rancheros Drive and Mission Road.
Deputies said the train’s operator saw a man lying on the tracks and activated the emergency brakes, but couldn’t stop in time. The man was taken to a hospital, where he died of his injuries.
An investigation is underway.
