Aloha, La Jolla!
There’s something about a senior dog: the soulful eyes, the expectant smile, the sure yet unsteady gait. These are endearing qualities of a grateful life, selflessly lived.
If you spend time in Windansea, you’ve most likely had the pleasure of meeting Jax. A grizzled 15-year-old ginger-haired retriever with a heart for making friends, Jax is a beloved four-legged fixture of our dog-loving community.
Not long ago, mornings would find Jax prancing along Neptune Street, proudly clearing a path for his dad, as he pushed his infant son along in a stroller. But lately, Jax’s days are unfolding at a slower pace. The strong hips and sturdy legs that carried him through much of his twilight years are now stiff with arthritis. His solo ambles through our neighborhood, in search of belly rubs and treats, are a distant memory. These days, neighbors will find Jax closer to home, napping on his front patio in the golden summer sunshine.
Last weekend, a pack of pup moms hosted a Yappy Hour in Jax’s honor. Fortunately, he didn’t need to walk very far before arriving at a beautiful garden patio on Nautilus Street, where a chorus line of cheerful faces greeted him at the front gate. Jax was all smiles as he basked in the joyful company of his buddies, Ryder, Brinkley, Cricket and Winston and lapped up a steady stream of kisses, hugs and back rubs from his adoring human guests. He looked so handsome in his bright red, guest-of-honor bandana!
“Our hearts are full after showering Jax with the love and attention his precious heart deserves,” Rebecca Whitney said. “Surrounded by two fellow Golden Retrievers, a spunky Pomeranian and a sweet Cocker Spaniel, Jax was the absolute guest of honor. Our Yappy Hour was a beautiful way to cherish a beloved senior pup who is such a blessing to our community.”

Street vendors out in force again after ruling in ongoing court battle limits enforcement

The ruling did not strike down San Diego’s street vendor ordinance, but reversed a lower court’s decision, sending the case back to San Diego Supeior Court.
