The FIFA World Cup is heating up as the quarterfinal round begins today. After this week’s heartbreaking losses for the host nations, you may find yourself adopting a new team to root for as we enter the final few matches.
I was walking to dinner the other night and got caught up in a crowd gathered along the sidewalk, all eyes on the street-facing sports bar TVs showing the last few minutes of the Mexico-England match. Tense faces watched from outside the bar as everyone collectively held their breath. Few events have been able to bring people together like this World Cup.
If you’re like me and don’t have the streaming subscriptions to catch every match, you’re probably scouting good places to watch. Good news, one of the city’s most exciting watch parties is right in our backyard! San Diego FC has teamed up with FIT Social to host viewing parties for every game at FIT’s beachfront venue on Mission Beach. As the SDFC website describes it, the watch parties feature appearances by SDFC players and club personalities, on-site FOX 5 talent, live music, cultural performances, giveaways and exclusive merch drops.
Whether you’re catching the quarterfinals from your couch, a packed local bar or the sand at Mission Beach, the end of this World Cup is sure to be full of exciting moments. See you out there!
