Hello, Navajo and College Area!
Driving on the 8 through Mission Valley, it’s hard to miss the new Home Depot under construction at the site of the Scottish Rites Masonic Temple on Camino Del Rio South. The multi-story building went up fast.
Seeing the familiar Home Depot-orange made me wonder what the new location meant for my Home Depot…and by mine, I mean the Home Depot on Fairmount Avenue in Grantville, where I have shopped for nearly two decades and know like the back of my hand.
Truthfully, I dreaded the thought of having to learn the layout of a new Home Depot. Plus, driving into Mission Valley for, well, anything really, also spurred a minor physical reaction in me.
But still, there were questions that needed to be answered. First, when will this new Home Depot open? And, more importantly for my Navajo Area neighbors, what will happen to the Grantville Home Depot? Will it be another housing development? It seems like for Grantville, that is the new status quo.
I reached out to Home Depot for those answers.
Barring any major delays, the new Home Depot will open on July 30, a company spokesperson wrote in an email.
The spokesperson said the new store means more jobs for the area.
“It also means broader impact through programs like disaster relief, our growing Path to Pro Program, and veteran support through The Home Depot Foundation,” wrote the company spokesperson.
Now, onto more important issues: What will become of my… I mean the Grantville Home Depot?
The company spokesperson says nothing. The store will continue to operate. While it’s surprising, considering the two stores are only a few miles apart, I will take them at their word.
