Sky-high grocery prices have been affecting us all, but there’s a new grocery store in town that might offer some relief. Grocery Outlet recently moved onto Garnet Avenue, a discount grocery chain that promises deep discounts on name-brand groceries.
Grocery Outlet operates nearly 500 stores across the country, including 20 in San Diego County. This location in the old Crunch Fitness space was long-awaited, despite recent closures of stores in El Cajon and Poway. High foot-traffic along Garnet is likely to bring in both locals and tourists, and a big parking lot in the back keeps it competitive with other grocery stores in the area.
I visited for the first time and picked up a couple grocery items, some gardening tools, dish gloves, snacks and a notebook for less than $30. That’s definitely a bargain for San Diego prices. But it’s important to temper your expectations: the produce I bought there went bad within two days.
If you’re an organic shopper that looks for fresh, abundant produce, this store likely won’t satisfy all your grocery needs. If you’re looking for boxed or processed foods and grocery staples at great deals, this might become your new favorite place to shop. It also has a wide selection of wine and beer at low prices and shares the best deals on Instagram every week.
Grocery Outlet Pacific Beach is located at 1211 Garnet Avenue and is open from 8 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. daily.
