The preliminary hearing for a man suspected of stabbing three guards at the entrance of Mavericks Beach Club in Pacific Beach in October 2025 has been delayed so his attorney can hire someone to review the medical records of the victims’ injuries.
The attorney for Dylan Robert Chase, 25, asked for the delay after looking at the medical records in court and telling the judge she was concerned the prosecutor will file attempted murder charges against Chase.
San Diego Superior Court Judge Theodore Weathers asked Deputy District Attorney Lauren Wade during the hearing whether attempted murder charges had been filed. Wade said they had not.
Chase’s attorney said she wants to be prepared in case attempted murder charges are added later and plans to retain a medical expert to evaluate the injuries described in the records. An attempted murder conviction can carry a potential life sentence.
A spokesperson for Mavericks Beach Club said Chase attacked the guards with a knife at the bar’s entrance on Oct. 19, 2025. The injured guards restrained him until San Diego Police officers arrived at the scene.
He never got inside the club, and “the safety and well-being of our staff and guests remain our top priority,” according to the Mavericks spokesperson.
The judge agreed to postpone the hearing until July 21.
Chase has pleaded not guilty to four counts of assault with a deadly weapon. Also charged with only one count of felony assault is his friend, Brayden Sanders, 25, and he has also pleaded not guilty.
Sanders remains free on bond.
