Overview: Assault case

The La Mesa Police Department is asking anyone who was in the area at the time of this incident, or anyone with information about this assault, to call the police department (619) 667-1400. 

A person of interest in an assault that left the victim in critical condition was arrested early Thursday, police say.

On May 7, at approximately 1:32 a.m., officers from the San Diego Police Department and San Diego Metropolitan Transit System located the person of interest in an April 30 La Mesa assault near Kettner Boulevard and Broadway in downtown San Diego. 

Detectives from the La Mesa Police Department responded to the scene and arrested Alexis Moreno-Magana, 22, of San Diego. Moreno-Magana was booked into San Diego County Jail on attempted homicide charges.

The victim remains hospitalized in critical condition.

The relationship between the suspect and victim remains under investigation.
