Aloha, La Jolla!

It’s Spring again at the La Jolla Open Aire Market.

After shaking off a veil of early morning showers, Sunday’s gathering shimmered in the jewel tones of Springtime’s ephemeral bounty.

A sea of smiles greeted my pup, Winston, and me as we zigzagged our way through a crowd of cheerful shoppers. As visitors poured into the village to take in the La Jolla Concours d’ Elegance and San Diego Book Crawl, scoring street parking within walking distance of the market was a Herculean task. In the flurry of this sunny Sunday morning, locals seemed to slow down their pace to savor the shopping, music, food and fun packed into the La Jolla Open Aire Market’s visitor experience.

Farmers markets are conduits of community spirit. I smiled when Rodney Kawano Farms Manager Luna Williams told me why the La Jolla Open Aire Market holds a special place in her heart:

“This market is very family oriented,” Williams observed. “We have so many regular customers who visit us every week. Some have known me since I was nine months old. I’ll turn 32 this year!”
