Today’s newsletter is presented by YMCA San Diego.
Good morning, San Diego.
Long lines and inconsistent enforcement are contributing to a general air of great frustration.
No, not just at the airport (although I wish everyone stuck there the best of luck), but at Balboa Park, where parking is still a major issue, free lots for locals notwithstanding.
Our Frank Sabatini Jr. went through the online registration process gauntlet so that you don’t have to; you can read about that here. (Spoiler: his verdict is in the subject line of this email.)
We also have a story about a group of surfers who held a paddle out in La Jolla to support immigrants and protest ICE actions on Sunday morning, a surfer tradition that is most often, but not always used as a mourning ritual after the passing of a beloved community member. It is also used as a particularly lovely form of protest with the hope that it might inspire others to take their own form of action.
Finally, in case this gets lost in the flooded zone that is our current news cycle, a generational shift has come to womens’ health care, specifically that around menopause. Now a $3.4 million budget proposal is making its way through the state Legislature with the specific goal of addressing care for what is finally beginning to be recognized as a significant life stage that, if left untreated, can cause major health consequences.
Is it a new beginning? Guess we’ll find out.

Opinion: Billionaires leaving California, other blue states over tax threats
It may not be the massive exodus that Ayn Rand depicted in “Atlas Shrugged,” but new tax measures certainly mirror the novel’s underlying theme.
