Hello, Beach and Bay locals!

San Diego’s music scene is robust, and it often feels like there’s always another live show to catch. But the upcoming Mustache Bash is one you won’t want to miss.

What started as a college house party 18 years ago has grown into a multi-city music festival celebrating 70’s disco and funk. Last year, Mustache Bash outgrew its previous downtown location and moved to our backyard in Mission Bay. I’ve attended the festival multiple times and can honestly say it’s one of the best events in San Diego each year. The live music across multiple stages always inspires people to boogie, and the costumes and commitment to the 70’s theme create a sense of community that makes everyone feel fully present in the disco throwback. Now that the event is closer to home, it feels even more accessible than in previous years. And the weather looks like it’s going to be perfect.

This year’s Mustache Bash takes place Saturday, March 21, at Mariner’s Point Park in Mission Bay from 2 p.m. to 10 p.m., with a separate after-party if you want to keep the night going. While the event is 21+, you can bring out your inner child at the disco roller rink that’s free for all attendees. Tickets are still available on the Bash’s website.

One of the event’s creators recently spoke to Times of San Diego contributor Steve Anderson, explaining how this groovy event came to be. Give it a read to learn the lore behind one of San Diego’s best parties.

Hope to see you there!

The Mustache Bash was never meant to be a big music festival. It became one anyway

The Mustache Bash — a boutique disco and rave festival — has consistently grown since its first follicle of an idea, 18 years ago.
