A felon was arrested Thursday when deputies conducting a probation-compliance check near Lindo Lake County Park found him living with his 9-year-old daughter in a small backyard shed containing guns and drugs.

Joe H. Tavolazzi, 60, was taken into custody early Thursday morning along with five other men and two women at a home in the 12700 block of Lindo Lane in Lakeside, according to sheriff’s officials.

The group was expected to face various criminal charges, including felony child endangerment, being felons in possession of a firearm, possession of methamphetamine and heroin, and probation violation, Sgt. Mike McNeill said.

Tavolazzi was living with his girlfriend and child in the outbuilding, which was not outfitted to be a livable dwelling. Despite the conditions, however, the girl seemed to be in decent health, according to McNeill.

“The condition of (Tavolazzi’s) daughter was surprisingly good, considering her home was a small, uninhabitable shed in the back yard with no utilities,” the sergeant said.

Deputies searching the cramped structure found a shotgun, a .22-caliber rifle and 8.1 grams methamphetamine, according to McNeill.

A Child Protective Services worker took the youngster into protective custody.

Tavolazzi was booked into San Diego Central Jail. He was being held on $195,500 bail pending arraignment, scheduled for Monday afternoon.
