San Diego County’s run of warm, dry weather is ending, with cooler-than-average conditions, gusty winds and rain expected this week, according to the National Weather Service.

Most of Tuesday is expected to remain dry, though a few light showers could develop Tuesday evening ahead of a cold front.

High temperatures Tuesday are expected to reach 65 to 68 near the coast, 69 inland, 67 to 72 in the western valleys, 59 to 67 in the mountains and around 80 in the deserts, the NWS said.

Onshore flow will strengthen beginning Tuesday, allowing marine layer clouds and patchy fog to develop overnight and deepen into Wednesday.

The main band of rainfall is forecast to move through San Diego County from Wednesday morning into the afternoon, according to meteorologists.

Rainfall rates are expected to be light to moderate, with totals generally at a quarter-inch or less. Isolated showers may linger into Wednesday afternoon, the NWS said.

Winds will peak Wednesday morning and gradually diminish later that afternoon. Gusts of 40 to 60 mph are possible along desert mountain slopes and near passes.

Forecasters said dry weather is expected Friday and Saturday before another storm system brings rain, wind and cooler temperatures as early as Saturday evening.
