Luck took the night off in the latest Mega Millions drawing, and as a result, the jackpot just got a whole lot bigger.
No tickets were sold matching all six numbers in Friday’s multi-state Mega Millions drawing, pushing the estimated jackpot for the next draw to a hefty $215 million, according to the Mega Millions Consortium. The jackpot heading into Friday night had been estimated at $199 million.
Not only did no one hit the full jackpot, but there were also no tickets matching five numbers while missing only the Mega number, meaning there were no near–big winners either.
The winning numbers drawn Friday were 12, 30, 36, 42, and 47, with a Mega Ball of 16. Despite plenty of hopeful players across the country, no ticket managed to line them all up.
Friday’s drawing marked the 11th straight Mega Millions drawing without a jackpot winner, allowing the prize to continue its steady climb. For those dreaming of striking it rich, the odds remain steep: the chance of matching all five numbers plus the Mega number is 1 in 290,472,336. The overall odds of winning any prize, however, are more forgiving at 1 in 23.
Mega Millions is played in 45 states, along with Washington, D.C., and the U.S. Virgin Islands, meaning millions of players will be back at it again when the next drawing rolls around.
The next drawing takes place Tuesday, when someone just might finally claim that $215 million prize—or send it climbing even higher.
