A husband suspected of intentionally crashing a truck into a Clairemont home Monday morning, killing his wife inside, was arrested in a case now under investigation as a homicide.
San Diego Police Department Officer Paige Foster said a call came in at 7:38 a.m. Monday about an incident at 4312 Dakota Drive.
“Numerous neighbors reported a traffic accident, a vehicle driving into a house,” Foster said.
“When officers got there, they found a woman who was deceased inside the home.”
The male suspect was arrested on suspicion of intentionally crashing into the home and the crash was being investigated as a homicide, Foster said.
The exact cause of the woman’s death and the woman’s name, were not immediately released. No other injuries were reported.
The crash resulted in a small fire at the home that was quickly extinguished, according to Jason Shanley, San Diego Fire-Rescue Department spokesman.
Police told reporters at the scene that the suspect, believed to be the victim’s husband, was found at the home and was taken to a hospital for treatment of burns suffered in the fire.
A neighbor told FOX 5 San Diego the female victim in the home had filed “a domestic violence restraining order against her husband last month, in November.”
Neighbors identified the couple as an “older pair,” and said the husband had recently moved out of the home after suffering physical and mental health issues, according to reports from the scene. Neighbors also told police the couple has two college-aged sons who recently celebrated Christmas visiting their mother at the home.
