Gathering ways to give back

The holidays are loaded. There are things to do left and right, people to see, places to be. Emotions fly around faster than Rudolph can fly across the sky. It’s easy to get swept up in the flurry of it all — and just as easy to let the season pass you by.

I think this time around, I’m going to remind myself to slow down. One of the best ways for me to do this is to intentionally give back to others.

There were a few local stories this week that reminded me to get on that.

First was about a young boy from Allied Gardens struggling through his second bout with cancer. The story is just as much about his strength as it is his parents and the community behind them. There’s information about how to help out through the family’s GoFundMe in the article.

We have another story about how College Area schools are pitching in to help out this holiday season. It’s inspiring to see students contribute to their community, but it also serves as a reminder. Once we hit adulthood, the responsibility lies with us to figure out how we’re going to be a part of building up our community.
