Beach & Bay Press weekly update

Hello, Pacific and Mission Beach!

I generally feel like our neighborhood is pretty safe, so I was shocked to hear that three security guards were stabbed outside Maverick’s Beach Club last Saturday night. According to the San Diego Police Department, the 24-year old suspect was kicked out of the bar before stabbing three security guards standing outside. Fortunately, none of the injuries were life threatening. The three guards went to the hospital, and the suspect was arrested for attempted murder and assault with a deadly weapon.

Still, Maverick’s has been a local haunt for many years – even dating back to the PB Bar & Grill days. This crime feels close to home. Is it a one-off, bad night? Or a sign of a changing neighborhood?

PB local Lexi Rueff had been out that night. When asked about the crime on Garnet Avenue, she said, “It makes me feel unsafe in my neighborhood. This is a community where we want to have fun, and we should all be able to enjoy our local bars without concern for our safety.”

Have you felt concerned for your safety while out in PB or Mission Beach? Were you out and about that night, or do you have thoughts you’d like to share? Send me an email at beachandbayhost@gmail.com.

In a community like ours, we take pride in looking out for our neighbors. Let’s keep showing up for one another – stay aware, check in on friends, and help keep the beaches a place we’re proud to call home.

Until next week,
Ashlyn
