Are your kids bored? Need a break for homework? You’re in luck as San Diego’s favorite fall family tradition returns in October, and it all begins in La Jolla. The 14th annual “Kids Free San Diego” officially kicks off Oct. 1 at Birch Aquarium at Scripps Institution of Oceanography, launching a month filled with family-friendly savings.

Throughout October, kids 12 and under can enjoy more than 100 deals across the region, including free admission at over 60 museums and attractions, free meals at restaurants, and hotel perks. Families could save up to $1,000 during a fall getaway.

“October is one of the best times to visit San Diego,” said Daniel Kuperschmid, president and CEO of the San Diego Tourism Authority. “The weather is perfect, the crowds are lighter, and with Kids Free San Diego, families can enjoy incredible experiences at a great value.”

La Jolla’s Birch Aquarium is a centerpiece of the program, offering free admission for kids with each paid adult. Highlights include the new Living Seas Gallery, featuring a Giant Pacific Octopus and coral reefs, the outdoor Tide-Pool Plaza, and the popular Little Blue Penguins exhibit—the only one of its kind on the West Coast.

Nearby, hotels are joining in with family-friendly perks. Catamaran Resort on Mission Bay is offering up to 25 percent off stays, complimentary paddleboard or kayak rentals, and a free kids’ meal at Oceana Coastal Kitchen. Ocean Park Inn in Pacific Beach adds extras like bike rentals, parking, and a kid-friendly swag bag, while Kings Inn in Mission Valley gives families savings on stays and free kids’ meals at its two restaurants with the purchase of an adult entrée, according to a news release.

Now in its 14th year, “Kids Free San Diego” underscores why the region remains a top family destination. Nearly one in five visitors travel with children, drawn by world-class attractions, outdoor adventures, and a vibrant arts and culture scene. With La Jolla as the backdrop for this year’s kickoff, the community takes the spotlight as families plan their October visits.
