A 9-year-old boy was hospitalized with a non life-threatening injury Saturday after bullets penetrated the walls of an East County apartment building, according to authorities.

An unidentified adult at the Parkway Club Apartments, 1225 Graves Ave, called the San Diego County Sheriff’s Office to report the shooting at 3:16 a.m., according to Lt. Sean Gallagher.

The boy was struck in the leg, Sheriff’s officials said, and was in stable condition after being transported to a hospital. He was expected to be released Saturday evening.

Deputies searched the building and determined that no one else had been injured in the shooting, in an unincorporated area of El Cajon.

No suspects have been identified and a motive has not been determined. More than one shot was fired into the building, Gallagher said.

Detectives from the Lakeside Sheriff’s Substation are investigating.

Anyone with information about the East County shooting was asked to call detectives at the Lakeside substation, 619-938-1360 or Crime Stoppers, at 619-235-8477.
