The Times of San Diego celebrates its second birthday Sunday and enters its third year of online publication with nearly 200,000 monthly readers.
The independent website, which offers daily coverage of San Diego’s essential news, was read by over 1.9 million people in its second year of operation, compared to an adjusted 1.5 million in the first year.
In addition to online readers, nearly 3,000 people receive the website’s email newsletter at 8 a.m. daily with the top news since the previous afternoon.
The website’s readers are primarily Millennials and Gen Xers, with those two age groups accounting for nearly half of all reading sessions. Because the site is designed to respond to different screen sizes, readers use smartphones or tablets more than half of the time.
A staff of seven contributing editors and photographers write and publish 20 to 25 articles daily on all aspects of life in San Diego County. Major topics include politics, crime, business, sports, education, arts, military, science and opinion.
Advertising continues to grow with both local businesses and national chains. The website partners with Google AdSense, Sovrn, OS4M, LiveIntent and other national advertising networks.
