Good morning, San Diego.
The San Diego International Airport has finally opened its long-awaited Terminal 1, and so far, the reviews are good. Check out our top story, a photo and video tour of the brand-new terminal.
It feels provincial to say this, but what better place to be that way than here, in this newsletter? I’ve traveled a lot over the years, and when you travel, you end up seeing a lot of airports. Then you start to develop opinions about airports and bore all your friends. As a dyed-in-the-wool bore, I’ll tell you what I tell everyone else: The San Diego Airport has always been one of the top airports for me. It’s sunny and easy to navigate, there’s good food and good beer, and there are interesting art pieces to look at.
Plus, there are rocking chairs. Additionally, this redesign will offer an outdoor patio and sectional sofas. I may be going on too long, but flying has become such a hassle that you welcome beauty wherever you find it, and it’s a wonderful airport to come home to.
On to the rest of our newsletter… the change in the air is here. It’s barely perceptible, but I can feel it. I’m talking, of course, about the fact that many local college students have started class this week, and while I’m not sure how many are in my neighborhood, I can tell you that it’s a lot quieter this week during the day.
We have a lot of education stories in today’s newsletter to reflect that seasonal shift back into the school year. It’s an exciting time, not just for students. I love the thrill and buzz in the air of the school year starting back up in a college town, and make no mistake, that’s what San Diego is – among other things.
