Good morning, San Diego.
The San Diego Pride Parade was shorter than usual, with a marked absence of many corporations, national law enforcement agencies, and military contractors — unlike previous years.
The shorter parade also came amid a rift with queer Jewish San Diegans. About 500 people showed up to celebrate at the first-ever J Pride Festival at Mandell Weiss Eastgate Park after San Diego Pride went forward with headline act Kehlani, despite controversial statements made by the singer.
Unrelatedly, there was a rash of car crashes over the weekend, including an SUV that went into the side of an Oceanside home where a woman was in bed sleeping. (No serious injuries were reported in that particular rude awakening.) Stay safe out there, people!
And finally, it may be a bad time for this particular announcement given the number of accidents over the weekend, but NASCAR — with the future of its Chicago Street Race in question — is considering the possibility of a San Diego location for its next street race, perhaps in Coronado. Insiders say an announcement may come as early as next week.
