Navy Federal Credit Union’s annual Back-to-School Bash campaign is underway through Aug. 6, bringing together members, team members, and nonprofit partners to help military children and local students start the school year ready to succeed.
As part of the campaign, Navy Federal’s San Diego Operations campus will host a Back-to-School Bash on Thursday, July 17 at 12:30 p.m., inviting team members to engage in summer giving opportunities.
Donation bins will be available onsite to support United Way of San Diego County’s Stuff the Bus drive, collecting school supplies such as pencils, folders, and binders. During the event, Alia Jaziri, Corporate Partnership Manager at United Way of San Diego County, will accept a $5,000 donation presented by Navy Federal campus executive Richard Allen.
Also onsite will be United Through Reading’s Mobile Story Station, offering volunteers the chance to participate in recorded reading sessions for military families. Each private reading is recorded on a tablet and shared with children to help maintain strong emotional connections during deployments or separations. The program promotes literacy while strengthening family bonds.
“Back-to-School is one of my favorite events on campus because it’s hands-on and personal for our volunteers,” said Richard Allen, VP of Corporate Accounting at Navy Federal. “Our team members are connected to local students as parents, grandparents, and mentors, and through our strategic partnerships, we cast a wide net to champion our San Diego community. Our mission is rooted in caring for the people and places we serve.”
Navy Federal members can also participate in the campaign through a Virtual Book Drive, ensuring military families have access to books on topics like financial literacy and military life. In addition, the Mobile Story Station will appear at select Navy Federal branches across San Diego:
- Tuesday, July 15, 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. – 2505 Callagan Hwy, San Diego (base access required)
- Thursday, July 24, 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. – 8660 Rio San Diego Dr., San Diego
- Wednesday, July 30, 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. – 10865 Black Mountain Rd., San Diego
“Our longstanding partnership with Navy Federal Credit Union allows us to provide military families with tools that truly make an impact,” said Dr. Sally Ann Zoll, CEO of United Through Reading. “The Virtual Book Drive not only fosters a love of reading but also equips children with essential financial literacy skills, laying the groundwork for confident, informed futures. Together, we’re delivering more than books; we’re providing opportunity.”
There is no age limit on financial wellness or school readiness. Media are invited to attend the Back-to-School Bash and learn more about how Navy Federal is helping local students succeed through partnerships, philanthropy, and volunteer service.
