Authorities were investigating after a person was fatally shot outside a hookah lounge in Kearny Mesa on Friday morning.
Officers responded at 4:40 a.m. Friday, to reports of shots fired in the 8055 block of Claremont Mesa Boulevard, according to the San Diego Police Department.
Two men were arguing at the NARA Ultra Lounge, where a large predawn party was being hosted, when shots were fired, reportedly outside.
Paramedics took the victims, a 37-year-old woman and a 21-year-old man, to a hospital, where the latter was pronounced dead. His name was withheld pending family notification
The woman, who was hit in the leg, was treated for her wounds and released later in the morning, SDPD acting Lt. Joel Tien said.
The shooter, a man who appeared to be in his 20s, fled in a vehicle before officers arrived at the lounge. No detailed description of him was immediately available.
It was unclear what prompted the gunfire, and investigators were looking for witnesses.
“Many people were present at this event and left prior to police arrival,” Tien said.
