Correction: The wrong designer was named in one of the captions about clothes by students from the Mesa College fashion program. Tiara Daring designed ‘Sultry Drift.’
The 44th Annual Golden Scissors Fashion Show was presented by San Diego Mesa College’s fashion program on May 16 at the Quad on the Mesa campus. This event was the result of months of planning and collaboration. The fashion students were responsible for every show detail, from promoting the event and coordinating the models to styling the show and creating the collections for the runway. The fashion students design and produce everything that is shown on the catwalk. It was a team effort within the fashion program.
This year’s theme was Expressions, and the students wowed the crowd with their fashion-forward styles. Gwendolyn Bates served as show director. The audience included students, faculty, industry professionals, and community members. Mesa College President Dr. Ashanti T. Hands welcomed everyone at the show’s start. The emcees were fashion program directors Jordyn Smiley and Lyndsey Johnson. Twelve talented designers showcased their original designs on the runway.
The event also featured a VIP reception with live music by the Applied Music Jazz Students. A Student Showcase displayed garments submitted by the students along with entries by the merchandising students. Winning entries were marked by ribbons. After the runway show, awards were presented to the collection students.
