The average price of a gallon of self-serve regular gasoline in San Diego County was at its second-lowest amount for a New Year’s Day since 2011, despite 16 consecutive increases totaling 33.3 cents.

The average price increased 1.1 cents Friday to $3.045, 8.4 cents more than one week ago, 30.5 cents higher than one month ago and 42.6 cents greater than one year ago, according to figures from the Automobile Club of Southern California and Oil Price Information Service.

The increases follow a stretch of eight decreases in nine days totaling 3.8 cents that dropped the average to its lowest amount since Feb. 11. The 16- day run of rising prices is the longest since a 19-day streak from April 17 to May 5.

Rising prices stem from unplanned maintenance at several refineries that have reduced supply, according to Jeffrey Spring, the Automobile Club of Southern California’s corporate communications manager.
